Everything You Need to Know About the e-cig battery
Lithium-ion is the battery of choice for a lot of devices like electric cars, laptops, household appliances and a lot of gadgets including phones and of course vaping devices. On average an 8% improvement on li-ion batteries is gained every year, increasing their capacity and reducing problems. They have a high energy density, no memory effect and very lof self discharge. They are very reliable as capacity decreases linearly at around 80% after around 500 cycles of use.
Apollo offers a variety of battery models for vaping kits and it can be confusing to decide on the one that is right for you. Each model is designed to cater to specific user preferences or device specs. Follow this helpful guide to learn more about the differences and benefits of each battery.
What is mAh?
One extremely important factor to consider when choosing which battery is right for you is the mAh. mAh stands for Milliamps Hour and it refers to the strength or capacity of a battery. Think of it like a car's gas tank... The mAh tells you how large your battery's tank is, which directly affects how long the battery lasts between charges. The higher the number, the longer the battery will last. A variety of factors affect how long your battery lasts, including how often you puff and how long your drags are, but a higher mAh will always yield a longer battery life.
What is Voltage?
Voltage is the measure of power coming out of the battery. The majority of batteries have a standard 3.7 voltage rating. Voltage varies slightly based on how much charge is in the battery (3.3V - 4.2V), but the average voltage at any given time is 3.7. Voltage, along with resistance, is a major factor in the quality of your vapor. Users who are familiar with how voltage affects the quality of their vapor tend to prefer Variable Voltage devices, which allow them to control and adjust the voltage of their e-cig depending on their preferences. Variable Voltage e-cigs are recommended for experienced users.
Manual vs. Automatic batteries
Ecig built-in batteries are available in 2 styles: Manual or Automatic. You can easily tell the difference between the styles because Manuals have a physical button on the e-cig and Automatics do not. An Automatic battery does not need to be turned on or off, it is simply activated by the user inhaling on it. Manual batteries may or may not need to be turned on or off, but must notably need to have the button pressed while inhaling to active the production of vapor.
Batteries have a limited lifetime which is dependent on a variety of things. On average, a battery may last up to a year before it needs to be replaced. Below are some tips on how to use your battery properly to maximize vapor production and lifespan.
-
Don't Over-Tighten
Be careful not to over-tighten any clearomizer or tank onto your battery. Over-tightening a clearomizer can cause the center pin to depress too much, which can cause your battery to short. Apollo's batteries are designed with a spring-loaded center pin to help minimize this issue, however, it's best to only screw a clearomizer on until it's "finger tight," meaning you just begin to feel resistance. Keep in mind clearomizers only need to touch the battery's center pin for them to work properly, so over-tightening does not improve the performance or create a better connection. Over-tightening can also strip the threading on your battery, which is not covered under warranty. -
Power Down
Make sure to turn your battery off when not in use. Doing so will prevent accidental activation. Accidentally pushing the button while the battery is not being used drains the charge and can damage an attached clearomizer. -
Protect Your Battery
When your battery is not in use, please make sure to keep it in a safe place. Avoid putting your battery in your pocket or bag while the clearomizer is attached, as doing so can apply pressure to where your battery connects to the clearomizer. This pressure can eventually lead to your battery’s connection breaking, exposing wires and stripping threads. Keep in mind that your battery is powered by a Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery. Do your best to keep your battery at room temperature, as excessive heat can shorten the battery's lifespan. As with any electronic device, please protect your battery from being dropped or otherwise sustaining any large impact. We always recommend keeping your battery in a protective case when not in use. -
Use it Regularly
Your battery is powered by a lithium ion cell and is meant to be used on a daily basis. Similar to a cell phone, your battery should be drained at least once a month, in addition to being charged to 100% at least once a month. When your battery is removed from the charger it should be allowed to drain at least 20% before being put back on the charger, and the battery should be allowed to charge at least 20% before being removed from the charger. Following these rules will significantly extended the lifespan of the lithium ion battery. The best way to ensure healthy battery care is to keep multiple batteries in rotation.
Battery transportation
Shipping lithium-ion batteries is notoriously difficult, as they are classified as the number one most dangerous good in the world due to their explosive nature on-board airplanes. Packaging and customs regulations are very strict and care has to be made to keep up-to-date with rule changes in multiple countries.
Counterfeit batteries
Just like any other item on the planet, batteries are counterfeit as well. Most of the producers have distinct marks on every battery that users can trace to make sure it is not an imitation. Another solution would be to buy from a trusted source. At Apollo we only sell hardware from approved dealers with 100% traceability.
Charging your battery
If you have a built-in battery you probably have a mini-usb charging cord as well that connects either to a wall plug or to any USB port. It is best to see what manufacturers recommend for charging power (Amps) as nowadays fast-chargers have bigger power outputs and may damage your battery.
If you have a removable battery like the 18650 (wich by the way is the same type of battery your laptop is probably using) or similar it is best to use a dedicated charger that has a few additional benefits like: overcharge protection, short circuit protection, inverse polarity check and a dedicated charge program specific for your battery. This will help keep your battery safe and healthy for longer.
Recycling your battery
It is highly recommended to not throw away the battery but recycle it properly. Built-in batteries also have some other circuit components that are not easy to recycle not to mention the hazard it produces to the environment. A waste battery take-back facility is now available at our premises for anyone who wishes to hand in their old or used batteries. Please note, old or used batteries should NOT be posted back to us.
